The issue

Ray Price OAM is an Australian sporting legend and cult hero.

Before leading Parramatta Eels to 4 premierships in the 80's the dual international was a rugby union international breakaway who crossed to league and Parramatta in 1976 and, as a lock, quickly established himself as one of the most relentless players in the game.

Ray appeared in all five Tests on the 1978 Kangaroo tour and in 1979 played in all three Ashes Tests (winning the Harry Sunderland Medal as Australia's best player in the series) and the Rothmans Medal and Rugby League Week's player-of-the-year award (he would win a second RLW title in 1985, and the Dally M player-of-the-year trophy in 1982). The last coming in 1986, in what proved to be a perfect farewell from Sydney football for both him and his great club and international teammate Mick Cronin.

The fans and the media called him ''Mr Perpetual Motion'' and after retiring from NRL in 1986 Ray went on to play one season for English club Wakefield Trinity where he and played 25 games, scoring 6 tries.

Ray's legacy was enshrined with a statue at Parramatta Stadium in 2009 and former teammate Peter Sterling has called Ray the 'best player to have ever laced up a boot for Parramatta'.

Ray's battle with cancer has been well publicised and he has beaten the disease alongside wife Sandy, who was also diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma.

While the footy boots were hung up long ago, Ray remains committed to supporting the rugby league community through charities such as Families of League. He is also an ambassador for Melanoma Institute Australia, where he has raised thousands of dollars for research with his annual charity golf day - the Ray Price Invitational.

Despite an indelible contribution to the game as one of the toughest and most successful players of all time, the one accolade that eludes Ray is to be named as a rugby league "immortal".

We believe he is most deserving of this recognition and ask for your support to make it a reality.
