Investigate the prevalence of Dientamoeba Fragilis in the community and prevent continual reinfection!

The issue

There has been an increase of the parasite dientamoeba fragilis in our community. Sydney Water had this issue back in 2011 with their use of biosolids, (http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/opinion/human-poo-on-our-farms-is-a-sick-practice/story-e6frezz0-1226051694709) and we are seeing it here in South East Queensland. Kids especially can be adversely affected by this parasite. It causes intestinal discomfort, nausea, failure to gain weight and mimics Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

There isn't an easy treatment which will eradicate this parasite, all that is available is trying different harsh antibiotics with nasty side effects that have high failure rates. There is a constant risk of reinfection due to the amount which is in the schools and community at large.
We, as parents, would like the Public Health Unit and Queensland Health to look into this, to stop ignoring our concerns, and to take it seriously. This has been classed as a disease-causing pathogen. Please sign our petition for the kids who suffer and for the families struggling for their kids to be healthy and thrive.
