One of our national treasure's The Great Barrier Reef is in serious danger: e.g. "coral bleaching of the northern parts of Great Barrier Reef is much greater than expected and likely the worst reef bleaching ever recorded." (Ten News 4 April 2016)

Surely it is time for action to save the Reef and protect it for future generations?

Not according to the QLD Government who have just approved the Carmichael coal mine which is widely considered to be "unbankable" (BoQ, NAB, Commonwealth Bank have all refused to back this project) or simply an "environmental insanity" (SMH - 4 April; Andrew Bartlett).

Dr. Charlie Veron, former chief scientist, Australian Institute for Marine Science stated: "I think there is no single action that could be as harmful to the Great Barrier Reef as the Carmichael coal mine."

The QLD Government is prepared to risk one of Australia's icons by giving the green light to Adani. It is worth noting that Adani is a company that has a long history of environmental destruction, regulatory non-compliance and other illegal activity, including bribery of government officials, unauthorised construction and tax evasion.

The time has come to say NO to the Adanis of this world.
