I know many girls, including myself, who have started their periods at school and been unprepared. Putting vending machines with free period products would save many girls the embarrassment of having ask their friends or even a teacher. Periods are normal and every girl will have to go through it some day, so we shouldn’t have to pay for them. If men had periods, they would get a paid leave and sympathy. But women have to push through the pain and embarrassment and are still told to suck it up and keep it to themselves. If men had periods, products would have been free years ago. If men had periods, there would be a cure immediately. Period products are a necessity, which is why we would donate the remaining products to Share the Dignity at the end of each month. Unfortunately, homeless women don’t have the luxury of being able to afford basic needs which is why it’s so important for said products to be free. What else are they supposed to do? Ruin their only clothes? Just like how toilet paper is easily accessible in cubicles, period products should be too. Signing this petition will help relieve women of the stress and fear of being unprepared to start their period.
