A vast population all over the world and especially in India is facing a lot of body shaming these days - it may seem to be a very trivial issue at the first glance but having a closer look into it would reveal that this is shattering people's personal dignity and self-confidence. In India, the primary association of the so called "imperfect bodies" is made to marriages. People deny marriage to girls who are fat or too slim. People ignore the fact that their conditions are not by their will but due to medical issues and problems. Severe cases of depression and social-anxiety are reported because of body shaming. Parents constantly pressurise their children who don't possess a perfect body to do something about it. In the modern world, beauty is all that's required to get a job in the private companies and even though the imperfect bodies possess skill, they're either denied the job or are kept on the waiting list. Racism also, is an issue that has been prevalent for several decades even after the laws against racial discrimination are formed. Teenagers and young adults who face acne conditions are treated with inferiority. This creates a feeling of self-hatred and low self-esteem in the person who is being body-shamed. In the worst cases, this takes the form of depression and suicidal thought process which is really harmful for the youth of any country. The people who practice body-shaming and idealize the perfect bodies are not being stopped by any legal authority and that's what is making them to feel superior which also makes them emotionally numb and this is not good for our generation.

As in March 2019, the Mental Health Foundation polled 4505 (aged 15-39 years) adults and revealed that one in eight (13%) of them had considered suicide, 34% are left anxious, 35% depressed and 18% feel disgusted about themselves, most of which are women and homosexual people. And this is quite alarming and really very serious. People are more concerned about owns body image and humiliation rather than to concentrate on the more important things. To change this malpractice, we need to practice strictness with the people who are spotted body-shaming other people, they should be punished to try to harm the dignity of somebody. The victims on the other hand should be given more opportunities in jobs and psychiatrists along with the psychologists shall volunteer for their counsellings. Although certain laws exist to favour the victims we need strict execution and fulfilment which can only be done by the public force. Also, counsellings shall be done for the people who perform body-shaming which could give them a nudge of what they're doing. For all such sessions, the NGOs and the government together shall fund it for shaping back the efficient youth of the country. So a legal ban is necessary for social degradation like this. Also, social media like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. shall start keeping an option to flag a post which is about body shaming. Another demand is to spread public awareness about this sin and how it mentally affects the victims. The issue is seriously ingrained in the society and now, law suits shall punish the body-shamers to set the examples. The culprits shall be made to publicly and nationally announce apology to the victims via news channels/social media/newspapers if proven guilty.

It's our duty to make the public realise that everyone is beautiful in their own way and what they do by judging people's looks is against the dignity of a person and should be against the law as well. Sentiments of every individual matters.
