Provide the Hunter Region with an after hours Animal Holding Facility

Provide the Hunter Region with an after hours Animal Holding Facility
The issue
- For over a decade, several local lost & found pet groups on Facebook have been a beacon of hope for the community. They are run by volunteers with over 150,000+ members combined, all committed to reuniting lost pets with their owners. We put in the work & are proud of our high success rates, but it's the times when we can't find a pet's owner that keep us awake at night. Now more than ever, we need a safe place to keep these animals contained overnight when all other avenues have been exhausted.
Unfortunately, in the Hunter Region NSW our stray animals are at risk. The RSPCA, once a sanctuary for found strays, no longer accepts them. Our pounds are not manned 24/7 and rangers are often uncontactable. When all these options fail, we are left with the heartbreaking decision to release these beloved pets back onto the streets, putting them in potential danger or finders put themselves & their own pets at risk while they wait until opening hours. Pets deserve better than to be left out in the cold with hunger and potential threats. We cannot continue to watch our furry friends suffer due to this gap in animal services.
We propose the reinstatement of an after-hours stray animal holding facility in our area. It's a small change that would have a big effect on our community, and especially the lives of our lost pets. These creatures are not just pets; they are much loved members of our families & they are entitled to protection and care regardless of the hour.
The time is now to lend your voice to our cause. We implore you to sign this petition and join our fight for the welfare of our lost pets. They depend on us and we must not fail them. Together, we can make a difference.
