The Issue

The Aldinga Beach area is one of South Australia’s most loved coastal destinations — valued by locals and visitors alike for its natural beauty, relaxed lifestyle, and strong community.

To help realise the full potential of this region, we support the development of a wave pool in Aldinga.

A wave pool would provide year-round recreational opportunities for families, surfers, and visitors of all ages — offering a safe and controlled environment to enjoy the water when ocean conditions are unsuitable or unsafe.

Importantly, this project would deliver meaningful economic benefits, including:

• Increased tourism to the Fleurieu Peninsula
• Job creation during construction and ongoing operations
• Flow-on support for local businesses such as cafes, restaurants, accommodation providers, and retail

Wave pools have proven successful in other locations, enhancing tourism and community amenity while coexisting with the surrounding environment.

Beyond economic benefits, this development would:

• Encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyles
• Provide opportunities for surf training and skill development
• Encourage a connection and appreciation of nature through a sport which is often practiced in wilderness areas
• Create a new community asset for locals and future generations

We recognise that all developments should be carefully assessed. However, we believe this proposal represents a positive and well-aligned opportunity for the Aldinga region.

We, the undersigned, express our strong support for the proposed wave pool development in Aldinga, South Australia.

We respectfully ask the City of Onkaparinga and relevant state authorities to give full consideration to the strong level of community support when assessing this proposal.
