The Issue

Having had the profound honour to work closely with many veterans, I've witnessed first hand their resilience, courage, and selfless service to our country. Yet, when these brave men and women return home, too many face a harsh reality – homelessness. Despite their sacrifice, their transition to civilian life is often met with numerous challenges, and finding stable housing shouldn't be one of them.

The statistics are staggering. According to the UK Armed Forces Vets Survey 2022 over 4,000 veterans were homeless. These aren't just numbers; they represent real people who have risked their lives for our nation. It's a moral imperative to ensure they have a roof over their heads.

As of 30 September 2024, 35,651 asylum seekers were being housed in hotels in the UK. The UK taxpayer has been committed to meet the full and endless financial cost of providing for an infinite number of people who have no connection to the UK, have never contributed to the UK and are unlikely to ever contribute to the UK.

The government can and must take actionable steps to address this issue. Providing free housing for all homeless veterans is not just a way to express gratitude but a necessary support system for those who have given so much. It's about meeting their needs holistically, covering not just physical shelter but also utility costs, maintenance, and access to support services, ensuring they live with dignity and security.

That UK Government cannot argue that it cannot afford to meet the costs associated with caring for the homeless Vets when every month tens of thousands of 'asylum seekers' are added without question.

We call upon our government to allocate funds and resources to create comprehensive housing solutions tailored specifically for veterans. This includes building new housing projects, converting unused buildings, and partnering with community organizations. It's time for a commitment to a national plan that leaves no veteran behind.

Remember, taking care of veterans is an ongoing responsibility for a nation that owes its freedom to their service. Let's ensure that every veteran has a place to call home.

Please sign this petition and join us in urging our leaders to take immediate action to house all homeless veterans, acknowledging their sacrifices and securing their future.
