Protect Whistleblowers Who Expose Animal Abuse

The Issue

Zoe Rosenberg, a 23-year-old animal rights activist, is facing more than five years in prison—not for violence or theft, but for rescuing four sick chickens from a Perdue Farms slaughterhouse and documenting their conditions.

Her “crime”? Exposing what she and her legal team argue was clear animal abuse.

She’s not alone. Across the country, animal advocates and even employees who speak out about cruelty inside factory farms are being charged, silenced, and punished—while the abuse they expose often goes uninvestigated.

We’re calling on Congress, the USDA, and state lawmakers to pass strong whistleblower protections for those who expose animal cruelty inside agricultural facilities. That means:

  • Protecting individuals from criminal charges when they document clear signs of abuse or neglect
  • Banning the use of NDAs or “ag-gag” laws that silence employees from reporting what they see
  • Enforcing federal humane handling laws—not prosecuting the people who reveal violations

Zoe Rosenberg’s trial should be a turning point—not another case of punishing the messenger. The public deserves to know how animals are treated in our food system. And those who risk their freedom to bring that truth to light should be protected, not prosecuted.

This is bigger than one person. It’s about ensuring transparency, accountability, and compassion in one of the most hidden corners of the U.S. economy.

Sign this petition to demand legal protections for whistleblowers who expose animal abuse—and help protect the right to speak out for those who can’t.
