As members and supporters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), we hold our faith, families, and values sacred. We call upon Hulu to cancel the upcoming reality series, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, set to premiere on September 6, 2024. This series, which sensationalizes the private lives of a few individuals, does not reflect the teachings of our faith and risks perpetuating harmful stereotypes about the Mormon community.

Why This Matters:

Our Faith is Sacred: Jesus Christ's teachings guide us daily, emphasizing the importance of family, integrity, and respect for others. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives distorts these values, focusing instead on scandal and controversy. The show's portrayal of Mormon women involved in a so-called "soft-swinging" scandal is not only misleading but also harmful to the image of our faith.
Misinformation and Harmful Stereotypes: This show is likely to perpetuate false narratives about the LDS Church and its members. As a community, we are diverse, strong, and committed to living lives of virtue. However, the actions of a few individuals should not define an entire faith community. We fear that the show will spread misinformation and reinforce negative stereotypes that have long plagued our faith.
Impact on Families and Community: The Church teaches that the family is central to God's plan. By airing this series, Hulu risks undermining the sanctity of families by sensationalizing personal struggles for entertainment. The content of this show does not align with the values we strive to live by, and it could have a detrimental impact on the perception of our faith and the well-being of our community members.
Our Request:

We respectfully ask Hulu to reconsider airing The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in its current form. We request that the network either cancel the show or work with LDS Church representatives and community leaders to ensure that any depiction of Mormon women and families is accurate, respectful, and free from sensationalism.
