The Cot VAlley , is an Ancient Valley , formed in the IceAge,  and has evolved over the thousands of years . It is a perfect example of Bio-Diversity at its best. A myriad of creatures reside here , Badgers, Deer, Rabbits, Hares, Foxes, to name but a few. The Valley base contains the most wonderful wild plants and flowers. Ancient hedgerows full in summer with Blackberries , in Autumn Sloes. Wild garlic, Bluebells, primroses and many wild herbs. 

At the heart of the Valley runs the Cot stream , which winds it way through the base of the fields and hedgerows , supplying the water the plants and creatures need. It has small hidden pools  where trout used to swim. Where Eels from the Sargasso sea hide, sometimes up thirty years before they leave the stream as it reaches the sea, and swim the 2,000 miles to their spawning beds in the Sargasso Sea. Their elvers (baby eels) return on this hazardous journey and they swim upstream till they find a new “home “ to begin growing and repeat this life cycle. With the excavations and continuing mud washing onto the gravel at the base of the stream they cannot feed. Fish cannot spawn as they need clear gravel beds .

The fragile Eco-System has been damaged and a continuation of this development will see the stream , which is the Valleys vital life support  , run at lower levels and continue to silt with the friable banks of this pond, daily crumbling into its waters. Polluting the stream as it heads down the valley to the sea. This cannot continue. It MUST be stopped.

“Cot Valley is an area that must be protected for its Unique Ecology and its History of Mining . So much wildlife will be lost. One of our few unspoilt havens. For Humans too”
