Protect Social Security Contributions for Working Americans

Protect Social Security Contributions for Working Americans
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call on Congress to take action to protect Social Security contributions for hardworking Americans and to prevent the exploitation of immigrant seniors. In certain communities, seniors are brought to the United States at retirement age not to start a new chapter, but to be financially exploited by family members through social safety net benefits. This practice burdens our Social Security system, diverts resources from those who have paid into it for decades, and often leaves seniors isolated and financially dependent.
As President-elect Donald Trump has said, “America is for Americans” and “America First.” Social Security is a promise to those who have dedicated their working lives to this country, and we must ensure that this system serves those who have earned it.
By establishing policies that restrict Social Security benefits to contributors, we can both safeguard our Social Security system and protect immigrant seniors from being used in this way. Here are just a few examples of the exploitation taking place:
“I was brought to the United States by my family when I turned 65. They told me I would be taken care of, but once I arrived, I was isolated and left with little support. My Social Security payments were taken to cover their expenses, and I rarely even saw the benefits of my own funds.”
– Maria, 68
“When I came to live with my daughter and her family, they assured me it was because they wanted me close. But soon, I realized I was here to help pay the bills, even though I had never contributed to Social Security. They took over my finances and left me with almost nothing for my own needs.”
– Alejandro, 72
“I didn’t want to leave Cuba, but my children insisted it was best. Now I see that they only brought me here to access benefits that I never contributed to. I am financially dependent on them and feel trapped in a system I don’t fully understand.”
– Rosa, 75
We ask Congress to support policies that reserve Social Security for Americans who have contributed to it, protecting vulnerable seniors from exploitation and ensuring that American families who have earned these benefits are prioritized. Join us in standing for a fair and responsible approach to Social Security—one that keeps “America First” and upholds the dignity of our nation’s seniors.
Respectfully,
