In the United States, your personal information can be accessed, including your full name, address, phone number, associates, and even your astrological sign. This isn't news, but the concern is that if you request your information to be removed, they will buck and tell you that there is no law to force them to remove your information, as shown in this petition image that I received. 

Due to concern over stalking, of which I have been a victim, as have countless others, this poses the issue of laws being put in place to force brokers to delete the information at the request of the person being named on the site, or on their behalf. There is no conceivable reason why you should have to contact a background report company to remove your private information, only to be told that they don't have to because there are no laws in place. 

In a time where everything we do is documented, we should have the peace of mind knowing that our private information isn't online for all to see. If someone needs to access your records for employment verification or law enforcement, there should be a request submitted by the person inquiring so that whoever is accessing the information can be verified and held accountable. I was contacted recently by an old boyfriend who treated me badly, and from whom I had to move to another neighborhood so he wouldn't find me. How did he locate me again? On a background website, and when I told them that I was being harassed, they did nothing about it because there are no laws in place to protect us. This needs to change, NOW!
