The Issue

Murray Park Drive and Belle Glade Avenue serve as the primary gateway to Lake Murray, Lake Murray Park, San Carlos Little League, Patriot Baseball League, and Navajo Softball fields. Every day, hundreds of children, families, pedestrians, cyclists, and park visitors travel through this area to access some of San Carlos’ most cherished community spaces.

For over a year, neighborhood residents have worked with the City of San Diego and Council District 7 to advocate for safety improvements at this location. Despite repeated requests and documented concerns and frightening incidences, our community continues to be told that traffic-calming measures are not warranted.

Recent City traffic data shows that approximately two out of every three drivers exceed the posted 30 mph speed limit in this area. Families with young children regularly cross this roadway to access the park, lake, playgrounds, and youth sports fields. Children should not have to navigate speeding traffic to get to a baseball game, softball practice, playground, or family outing at Lake Murray. Residents have also raised concerns about limited visibility, heavy pedestrian activity, and the growing risk of serious injury. Our community should not have to wait for a fatality before preventative action is taken.

Please sign this petition to urge the City of San Diego to prioritize traffic-calming and pedestrian safety improvements at Murray Park Drive and Belle Glade Avenue before a tragedy occurs.
