The Issue

Families in Bainbridge, Georgia are reeling after reports of horrific abuse at Little Blessings Child Care. On August 12, 54-year-old worker Yvette Thurston was arrested and charged with first-degree aggravated battery and three counts of first-degree child abuse. Police say they reviewed surveillance footage from inside the daycare that contributed to the charges.

One of the children involved was just a toddler — hurt on his very first day at the center. His father, Cory Weeks, shared photos of his son after the alleged abuse, and the images have shaken the community. No parent should ever have to send their child to daycare and fear that they might come home injured or traumatized.

While Thurston has since bonded out of jail, the question remains: how did this happen in the first place? What safeguards failed, and why was a worker capable of such harm allowed near children at all? This is not just about one arrest — it’s about a system that must be held accountable before more children are hurt.

Parents deserve transparency. They deserve to know who is being hired to care for their children, what oversight is in place, and whether surveillance or safety reports are actually being monitored. Right now, Little Blessings Child Care has lost the trust of this community. Until there are answers and accountability, it is not safe for children to return.

We call on the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and Bainbridge city officials to immediately suspend Little Blessings Child Care’s license pending a full investigation. Families cannot gamble with their children’s safety while questions remain unanswered.

No child should ever be abused in a place meant to protect them. It’s time to put children first and demand accountability from this daycare and the agencies that oversee it.

Sign if you agree: Bainbridge must shut down Little Blessings Child Care until parents can be guaranteed their children’s safety.
