Protect Military Families — Stop ICE Arrests of Service Members’ Spouses
The Issue
A Marine veteran’s wife was handcuffed and taken away in front of him—during her green card interview.
In San Diego and other cities, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has begun arresting military spouses at their final immigration interviews, where families expect approval and stability—not detention.
These are spouses of U.S. military veterans and active-duty service members. They are following the legal process. They’ve done everything right. And they’re being treated like criminals.
This is not just cruel—it’s a betrayal.
Retired Marine Staff Sgt. Samuel Shasteen served for 20 years, including in Afghanistan. After losing his first wife to cancer, he found love again—and married a woman who overstayed her visa but was fully eligible to adjust her status. They submitted paperwork, paid fees, waited for their appointment. At the interview, she was arrested in front of him and sent to a detention center.
It’s not an isolated case.
Military families across the country are reporting similar stories—spouses detained with no criminal records, despite federal laws that provide protection and discretion for military-connected households.
We’re calling on President Trump, Secretary of Homeland Security, and ICE leadership to immediately:
- Halt all arrests of military spouses at green card interviews
- Restore prior immigration protections for military families
- Ensure that all lawful applicants are allowed to complete the process without fear.
Our veterans and active-duty personnel sacrifice everything for this country. Tearing their families apart is not only unjust—it undermines military readiness, morale, and basic human decency.
If someone risks their life for this nation, their family should not have to risk being torn from them by the very government they served.
Sign to demand protection for military families now.
