The Issue

As a parent of a student at Southeast in Park Hill School District, my son’s educational journey has inspired me to take a stand. We are just beginning the process of developing his 504/IEP, and already, I see how critical it is for special education services to be available at every school. The proposed redistricting plan, which would limit these services to select schools rather than ensuring access in all schools, is simply not acceptable.

Beyond the flawed plan itself, the lack of communication with parents—both special education and general education families—has left us without a voice in decisions that directly impact our children’s education. Without transparency and open dialogue, we have been denied the opportunity to provide input or make informed choices about what is best for our children. Parents deserve to be active participants in shaping their child’s educational experience, not left in the dark until decisions are already made.

This approach forces students to travel to access the support they need, rather than integrating services into their neighborhood schools. Not only does this segregate special education students, but it also disrupts their ability to form meaningful relationships with their peers—both academically and socially. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow alongside their classmates in an inclusive environment, not be displaced due to administrative decisions.

This issue extends beyond special education students—it affects the entire school community. The relationships between general education students and their peers with special needs play a critical role in fostering understanding, empathy, and reducing bullying. Removing services from certain schools will fragment this essential social fabric.

Special education is a right, not a privilege reserved for select locations. It must be accessible in every school within the Park Hill School District. We cannot allow this redistricting plan to compromise the inclusion and well-being of our children.

Please join us in opposing this change and demanding transparency from the district. Sign the petition today to ensure all students have equal access to the support they need—at every school—and that parents have a say in their children’s education.
