Protect Federal Retirees: Add a Grandfather Clause to the FERS Supplement Elimination Bill

Protect Federal Retirees: Add a Grandfather Clause to the FERS Supplement Elimination Bill
The Issue
I’m a retired federal employee with nearly 35 years of service. I retired early, based on the promise that I would receive the FERS annuity supplement once I reached my Minimum Retirement Age (MRA) in June 2028.
Now, the House has passed a bill (Section 90002 of H.R. 1) that would eliminate this benefit for anyone not “entitled” to it before January 1, 2028—just five months before I qualify. This legislation does not include a grandfather clause, meaning thousands of retirees like me, who planned responsibly and followed the rules, will lose a benefit we were promised and can never recover.
We urge the U.S. Senate and House leadership to amend the bill and add a grandfather clause for those who have already retired or made irreversible decisions based on existing law. Do not betray the public servants who gave decades of their lives to this country.
