The Issue

This petition concerns the Facebook page/group  "Crawley Talks", which has repeatedly published information about/graphic footage of serious incidents and fatalities before official confirmation, causing distress within the local community.

The local Facebook news page repeatedly publishes unverified reports and graphic footage of fatal incidents. Families and friends are discovering a loved one's death through social media before receiving official notification. We are calling on Facebook to enforce stronger moderation against pages that repeatedly share unconfirmed fatalities and traumatic content.

The page's owner has stated that they pay for footage of accidents and incidents and publish it as part of the channel's ethos. Community members have raised concerns that this includes traumatic content involving seriously injured or deceased individuals, sometimes before families have been formally informed.

Police say legally nothing can be done, so we therefore call on Facebook to review and remove pages that repeatedly publish unverified death reports, graphic footage of fatal incidents, and/or information that causes distress to families before official notification.
