Protect and Save Cardross Library

Protect and Save Cardross Library
The Issue
As a local Councillor for Helensburgh and Lomond South, a part of Argyll & Bute Council, this issue is not just professional to me, but also deeply personal. The pressing matter in our community is the potential loss of a fundamental institution - Cardross Library. It's not just infrastructure - it's the heart of our local community and a lifeline to so many who depend on its services.
The library serves a multitude of purposes beyond providing access to a plethora of books. It's a social hub for our area, particularly for the older residents and those who experience isolation. More so, it's a sanctuary during the colder months, offering a warm, inviting space mitigating problems associated with rural isolation and Scotland's winter weather.
Statistics reportedly show that libraries contribute immensely to community health. ‘The Guardian’ reported in 2019 that libraries boost community wellbeing and serve as vital hubs, particularly in areas like ours. In the same vein, Libraries Connected cites that library attendance contributes positively to life satisfaction, happiness, and the sense one’s life is worthwhile.
Our plea is to safeguard Cardross Library for the present and future generations, thereby preserving its countless benefits to our community. We beseeach the administrative authorities to protect this vital establishment from shutting down. This not merely a signature campaign, but our collective effort, in a bid to save our lifeline. We urge you to sign this petition today and support Cardross Library's survival, a symbol of our cultural wealth, community wellbeing, and our regional identity.
