The Issue

🏏 Cricket is one of the fastest-growing sports in Canada, with rising participation across youth, women, and adults. In Burlington, Central Park is a key hub supporting this growth for the entire community, but more is needed.

⚠️ Limiting or removing adult cricket use will significantly impact usage. Adult cricket drives the highest and most consistent activity, keeping the field active and inclusive. Planned upgrades (Summer 2026), even though they will temporarily disrupt all cricket play for 2026 season :( , are expected to address resident concerns and improve the facility.

🏟️ Like other sports, cricket needs multiple spaces for different formats and levels. Restricting Central Park to limited groups may lead to underutilization, as youth and women’s cricket—while growing—still needs time to scale.

🌱 The solution is expansion, not restriction. Sherwood Forest Park is a critical opportunity, and accelerating its development will provide much-needed capacity for the growing cricket community.

We are asking the City of Burlington to:

  • Keep Central Park open for all, including adult (Tape Ball & Leather Ball) cricket
  • Allow "Regular" permitting times like all other sports (8am to 8pm) for ALL days, weekdays and weekends
  • Recognize adult cricket as a key driver of community engagement and usage
  • Fast-track Sherwood Forest Park cricket development
  • Adopt a balanced approach supporting youth, women’s, and adult cricket
  • Allow adults access to both parks to meet growing demand without any hourly or game play restrictions

🤝 Cricket unites our community. It promotes health, inclusion, and reflects Burlington’s diversity. With the right planning, we can grow the sport without excluding anyone.

"Policy is being shaped more by complaints (that are being addressed) than by growth demand"

✍️ Sign this petition to protect inclusive access at Central Park and help expand cricket facilities across our city.
