Protect Amarillo’s Water and Land from Private Nuclear Mega-Projects

The Issue

A private company backed by billionaires and political insiders is building the world’s largest AI and nuclear-powered data center near Amarillo, Texas. The project, led by Fermi America, plans to use millions of gallons of water each day and build multiple nuclear reactors just outside the Pantex nuclear weapons plant.

This land and water belong to the people of Texas—not just to developers and investors.

Fermi has already secured a 99-year lease from Texas Tech and a water deal from Amarillo’s City Council, with little public input. Local residents are raising concerns about drought, strain on the Ogallala Aquifer, and whether this massive private project will benefit the community at all.

Once again, West Texas is being asked to give up its resources so others can profit.

We are calling on city and state officials to:

  • Pause any new permits or public agreements with Fermi America
  • Require a full public review of the environmental impact
  • Guarantee that Amarillo residents—not just private companies—have a voice in the future of their land and water

This is not a fight against progress. It’s a demand for fairness, transparency, and long-term sustainability.

Sign this petition to protect Amarillo’s future from being sold off without a say. Our water, land, and safety deserve public protection—not private control.
