The Issue

As a long-standing member of the Sydallt community in Wrexham, the proposed transformation of Oak Alyn Hall into residential accommodation for individuals seeking asylum deeply concerns me. This historic building and its idyllic surroundings are precious assets to our small, rural community, and altering its use in such a manner would disrupt the balance and charm we cherish.

The proposal to classify Oak Alyn Hall under a sui generis classification for housing individuals seeking asylum would impose an unrealistic demand on our locality. Our community lacks the necessary infrastructure, transport links, and local services to safely and effectively support a development of this nature and scale. There are currently no efficient public transport options to facilitate easy commute, and the local amenities, including healthcare and educational facilities, are not equipped to accommodate a sudden increase in population.

Beyond the logistical hurdles, the heart of our concern lies in the potential loss of community character. Sydallt is renowned for its tight-knit community spirit and tranquil atmosphere, which could be irrevocably altered by such large-scale residential development.

We understand and support the need for humanitarian efforts and the responsible integration of asylum seekers, but Oak Alyn Hall is simply not a suitable location for this purpose. Alternative sites that are better equipped and strategically positioned to offer essential services should be considered instead.

Our request is not based on resistance to change or opposition to asylum support, but rather on a plea for practical solutions that will benefit all parties involved while preserving the essence of our community.

I urge the decision-makers to reconsider this proposal and engage with our community to explore viable alternatives that respect both the needs of asylum seekers and the unique fabric of Sydallt.

Please sign this petition to help protect the future of Oak Alyn Hall and the prosperity of our cherished community.
