The issue

This petition is to help support the proposal we wish to present to the SSQ Tech Committee by showing the community support for the changes.

We propose two key changes to strengthen and grow the SSQ Nostalgia Sedans Class:

1.      Reclassification — Update the general description of the class to reflect its competitive nature rather than its outdated “demonstration” label.

2.      Technical Parity — Revise rules to allow and not restrict adjustments to motor power and running mechanics, enabling fairer competition among all eligible 52+ year-old nostalgia vehicles.

Background

The SSQ Nostalgia Sedans Class currently has strong and growing community support, with 2.3K members in the private Facebook group. A recent call for builds and cars in progress received 40 comments and 20+ vehicles posted, showing a clear pipeline of future competitors.

While the class originated as a demonstration category, it has evolved into a legitimate competitive division where drivers race their cars as intended while respecting preservation and safety.

Current Challenges

·         Outdated Classification — The “demonstration” label does not reflect the current competitive spirit, which may limit interest, sponsorship, and recognition.

·         Uneven Competition — The class includes a wide variety of makes and models over 52 years old, with large differences in engine power and mechanical setups. These disparities affect competitiveness before driver skill is even factored in.

·         Low Numbers for Splits — Car counts do not support splitting into “A” and “B” divisions based on motor power, making parity adjustments essential.

Proposed Changes

1.      Update Class Description — Amend the official SSQ Rule Book to replace “demonstration” with a term that reflects both heritage and competition, such as “Nostalgia Competition Sedans.”

2.      Adjust Technical Regulations — Introduce controlled allowances for modifications to engine output and running gear to bring cars closer in performance potential, regardless of make or original specification.

Expected Benefits

·         Fairer Racing — Level playing field encourages participation from a wider range of vehicle types.

·         Increased Participation — A competitive yet accessible class attracts both existing members and new entrants.

·         Enhanced Spectator Appeal — Close racing between diverse classic sedans increases entertainment value.

·         Class Longevity — Updated rules future-proof the division, keeping it relevant and sustainable.

Conclusion

By updating the class description and introducing fair technical adjustments, the SSQ Nostalgia Sedans Class can grow in numbers, competitiveness, and appeal—benefiting drivers, fans, and the sport as a whole.
