The Issue

I have been a long-time supporter and follower of women's tennis, passionately cheering for athletes who dedicate their lives to the sport. When I learned about the potential for trans men to compete in USTA women's tennis, I felt compelled to raise my voice and share my concern.  I don't have a daughter, but I am taking a stand against men playing in women's recreational tennis within USTA.

It's a fundamental truth that men's and women's professional tennis divisions have different standards and regulation owing to physiological differences between genders. This separation is designed to ensure fair and competitive play within each division. Allowing trans men to participate in women's tennis challenges this balance and raises questions about fairness and competitive integrity.

Professional tennis, governed by international bodies like the ITF, does not permit trans men to compete in women's categories. As such, extending these rules to the USTA could maintain consistency with professional standards while fostering an environment of fairness and respect for all athletes involved.

Our community must prioritize equitable competition, offering every athlete a fair playing field. The USTA should take a principled stand, aligning with practices that reflect fairness, equality, and respect across the sport, not undermining them.  It seems that USTA is catering to the minority of trans men and not the majority of women players.

I call upon the USTA to uphold the current professional tennis standards and refrain from allowing trans women to compete in women's categories. This decision will not only preserve the integrity of women's tennis but ensure the future of equitable competition within the sport.  There is nothing stopping them from continuing to play with men.

Sign this petition to voice your concern and uphold fair competition in women's recreational tennis within USTA.
