The Issue

The presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Chattanooga, Tennessee has created fear and disruption within our community, affecting families, students, and workers. This petition calls for the immediate cessation of ICE activities in Chattanooga to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents, many of whom contribute positively to our local economy and community culture.

Chattanooga has always prided itself on being an inclusive and welcoming city, a place where diversity is celebrated and everyone's rights are respected. The actions of ICE undermine this ethos, creating an environment of fear and uncertainty, particularly amongst immigrant communities.

Research conducted by the Center for American Progress shows that heavy ICE presence in communities can lead to reduced community cooperation with local law enforcement, hinder economic growth, and negatively impact children's education due to heightened fear and anxiety. Without ICE, Chattanooga can focus resources on building resilient, connected communities where everyone feels safe and valued.

We propose that local officials prioritize community-based policing strategies that foster trust and cooperation, rather than fear and division. By phasing out ICE operations, Chattanooga can stand as a model city that upholds human dignity and fosters unity.

To make change happen, we need your support. Stand with us in making Chattanooga a refuge of safety, progress, and equality for all. Sign this petition to show your support and urge our local leaders to act now by prohibiting ICE operations in our city.
