As dedicated members of the West Lakes community, we have frustratingly been forced to fill the role of stewards, trying to prevent the increasing harm to our precious local ecosystem at Freshwater Lake. Our wildlife has been put in danger, our once serenely beautiful pond being turned into a disaster zone due to irresponsible fishing practices. It breaks our hearts to bear witness to native animals injured by discarded fishing hooks, which can cause fatal wounds. The trampling through island habitats by unaware fishermen has led to critical habitats being abandoned by scared creatures. Recklessly discarded fishing hooks, lines and rubbish are causing further wildlife and environmental damage.

It is time we take firm action to protect the fragile ecosystem. Let's reimagine the Freshwater Lake as a haven for wildlife and a place of enjoyment for respectful, nature-preserving community members. Let's rid it of harmful practices. 

Please sign this petition asking Council to put a ban on fishing at the Freshwater Lake in West Lakes. Let's save our local wildlife and ensure they have a safe and undisturbed habitat for generations to come.
