Prison reform and legal reform

Prison reform and legal reform

The Issue

Until all of us have liberty and fair treatment, NONE of us do. The present non-system of bail, which discriminates against the poor, corrupt and time-vampire DAs, judges, etc, and the bureaucratic nightmare of any citizen who enters into a legal procedure, as an accused criminal OR as someone seeking justice against a person or entity that has caused them damage, is a shambles and a famous example to the world of the failure of  "due process" and the goverment's abilty to facilitate a person to "have thier day in court - on the local, county, state, federal and appelate levels, civil, criminal courts, you name it.

There are so many movies out that highlight the horrible conditions in prison, the violations of habeas corpus of un-convicted citizens, that it has become mainstream knowledge.

THIS should be first priority. It is related to health care reform and the right of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Specifically, we should increase the review of possible pardons for prisoners who got the dirty end of the stick, compensation for those citizens and a general overhaul of the system, with it's own congressional committee to facilitate it.
