The Issue

Our children, the future of soccer in Canada, deserve to be prioritized over profits and procedural rigidity. This year, our U13 players spent their entire season tirelessly working toward the prestigious provincial championship. These young athletes trained diligently, made personal sacrifices, and devoted immense effort to earn their rightful opportunity to compete for the title they so dearly deserve.

Recently, the events leading up to the championship showcased a lack of prioritization for our youths' hard-earned achievements. The first-place and fourth-place teams were scheduled to compete, along with the second-place and third-place teams, to determine which two would advance to the final showdown. However, due to unforeseen circumstances such as hazardous weather conditions, specifically smoke, the scheduled matches were disrupted, jeopardizing the fair competition spirit at the heart of youth sports.

It's imperative that the Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA) take a stand to ensure fairness and uphold the integrity of the competition. Rescheduling matches when external conditions unfairly impact play is not only reasonable, but essential to provide a level playing field. Our kids trained for this moment, and it's within CMSA's capacity to safeguard their chance to compete fairly and showcase their skills.

Youth soccer is about more than just games; it's about cultivating teamwork, hard work, and resilience. By prioritizing these values and the legitimate aspirations of our young players, CMSA can support the growth and development of future soccer talent in Canada.

We urge CMSA to implement a clear, flexible policy for rescheduling matches affected by conditions beyond teams' control to ensure players are not deprived of opportunities due to factors such as weather. Such a policy should be established swiftly to serve as a precedent for future occurrences.

Join us in advocating for a fair and supportive soccer environment for our children—sign the petition to urge CMSA to put our kids before money and ensure they receive the chance to compete fairly and safely.
