Primate Extinction - ask Obama to save them!

Primate Extinction - ask Obama to save them!
The Issue

Did you know that today HALF of the world's known primates are endangered?
Primatologists have reported as few as 60 individuals left of some species.
In 2005, 25% were ... today, that figure has doubled!
It's hard to imagine ...
For many of us, our view of primates comes from watching Animal Planet and National Geographic, images of cuddly monkey babies clasping their mothers.
Clearly, this is only a small glimpse... one that will soon be outdated, unless we do something!
Can you envision Africa without the silverback, or Indonesia without the lemur? Both are critically endangered.
The story behind the story in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America:
--poachers hunt & kill primates for bushmeat, fur trade and pet trade
--habitats are being destoryed for roads, agriculture, and logging
2010 is the UN's International Year of Biodiversity; we were supposed to be celebrating species survival success stories this year.
We were supposed to be celebrating a "significant reduction" in biodiversity losses, but as many ecologists are reporting, we are experiencing MASS EXTINCTION instead.
What can we, as individuals, do about the poaching and habitat destruction driving these animals to extinction?
Start by signing this petition.
WE ARE TARGETING PRESIDENT OBAMA - urging him to speak out to the members of the United Nations to propose an action plan giving global protection of the species and their habitats.
