The issue

Ever since I can remember, I have had an affinity with the natural world. The senseless killing of defenseless animals, like koalas, is something that pierces my heart with an immense sense of sorrow and injustice. Today, I stand against the planned slaughter of 700 koalas by Jacinta Allen, Premier of Victoria.

Koalas are an iconic symbol of Australia's unique wildlife, and their population has been dwindling due to deforestation, wildfires, and disease. In fact, according to the Australian Koala Foundation, the koala population has declined by 90% since the late 18th century, leading them to be functionally extinct in many parts of Australia (source: Australian Koala Foundation). Instead of planning for mass killing, the emphasis should be on initiatives to protect and rehabilitate the koala population.

The proposed decision by Jacinta Allen, Premier of Victoria, to cull 700 of these defenseless creatures is a step in the wrong direction. It fails to address the root issue like habitat loss, and instead victimizes the innocent. Moreover, the mass slaughter of these harmless creatures not only jeopardizes their survival but is an act against animal rights.

By signing this petition, you are urging the Premier to reassess this decision and to consider alternatives such as habitat restoration, regulated growth of Urban areas, and dedicated efforts towards the treatment and conservation of the koala population. Let us come together to prevent this tragedy and give the koalas the respect and protection they deserve. Please sign this petition today!
