Prevent the Demolition of the Historic 1977 Queen's Silver Jubilee Mosaic in Freshney Place

Prevent the Demolition of the Historic 1977 Queen's Silver Jubilee Mosaic in Freshney Place
The Issue
As a teenager, I witnessed the unveiling of the Queen's Silver Jubilee Mosaic in Freshney Place – it was an event set in time, celebrating a crucial moment in our history. This mosaic was erected in 1977 and has been a symbol of our local heritage ever since. This symbol, embedded with historic and sentimental values, was hidden behind a wall and forgotten by the North East Lincs Council but not by its people. The mosaic portrays the significance of the Silver Jubilee, a momentous national event, in which Queen Elizabeth II marked the 25th year of her reign - an event that occurred only once in the 20th century. Our beloved mosaic is now in danger of being bulldozed down to make room for a cinema development project.
This petition runs on the wheel of preserving our local cultural and historical landmarks which, at its core, define our identity. Whilst we understand and appreciate the continual development of our locality, it shouldn't mean obliterating tangible remnants of our shared history. We hereby ask the council to reconsider this action: to maintain the mosaic in situ and plan the work around it or secure its meticulous removal and reinstallation.
This artefact is not just mortar and tile; it's our pride, nostalgia, and shared memory. Being a part of the community for over 40 years, the mosaic serves to remind us of our roots and growth over the years.
We firmly believe that a nod to the past can work hand in hand with the strides towards the future. Make your voice heard, support the cause, and join us in saving the 1977 Queen's Silver Jubilee Mosaic. Sign the petition today and stand up for our history.
