Prevent the Closure of Morrison's Local Post Office, Forestdale, Croydon

The Issue

As a local business owner, I rely heavily on the daily services of our local post office in Morrison's, Forestdale, Croydon. The imminent closure of this branch not only affects my business operations but also has far-reaching implications for the community at large. This essential service lies at the heart of our area and its closure goes beyond the removal of a community amenity.

Our local community is home to a large elderly population, some with mobility issues and many of whom depend on the Post Office for essential services, including the provision of stamps and a newspaper delivery that will disappear. The reality of public transport poses a significant difficulty for many residents, and the absence of local banks only elevates the need to keep the Post Office open.

The Post Office is part of the local community and is close to a school as well as other essential shops and a pharmacy.

Studies show that elderly individuals are less likely to relocate, indicating that a loss of critical local services can disproportionately affect them (Pew Research Center, 2018). For these residents and many others, the Post Office is a lifeline, and its closure would significantly impact their daily life.

Moreover, from an environmental perspective, the closure would result in unnecessary additional traffic congestion and elevated pollution levels. We will all be faced with the prospect of driving over a mile daily to access postal services. This additional travel creates unnecessary emissions and contributes to traffic congestion—a problem that our community could certainly do without.

I urge you to reconsider this decision and look at the bigger picture—the Post Office is more than just a building or a service; it’s the lifeblood of our community. Please sign and share this petition to support our bid to keep the local Post Office open. Your signature will help raise awareness and hopefully influence the decision to keep the Post Office at Morrison's operational for the sake of our community and environment.
