Prevent Jorge’s deportation! A Call for Compassion and Justice🇺🇸❤️‍🩹

The Issue

Imagine being diagnosed with a life threatening neurological condition as a child and spending your entire life learning how to survive it, only to have your health rapidly deteriorate while held in immigration detention unfairly.

Jorge Sorondo Rodriguez has lived with epilepsy since the age of eight. For decades, he managed this serious condition with medical care, stability, and the support of his family. Today, after being detained for over 100 days at the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas, Jorge is experiencing increasingly frequent and severe seizures, placing his life at immediate risk. No person with a serious seizure disorder should be subjected to prolonged detention without adequate and consistent medical care.

During his detention, ICE has attempted to deport Jorge to third countries despite his serious and worsening medical condition. These countries have refused to accept him because of his health, recognizing the medical danger involved.

Throughout this process, Jorge has stood strong and refused to be deported under conditions that place his life at risk. He has continued to assert his dignity and to make clear that he is not a criminal, but a human being fighting for his life and for his family.

Jorge entered the United States legally with hope and ambition. He studied, lived, and worked here for many years, building a professional career as an IT engineer and contributing meaningfully to society. He gave back to his community by donating his personal vehicle to support veterans in Texas and by helping families in need through our church during the holidays. What began as a pursuit of the American dream has now turned into a nightmare in one day not only for Jorge, but for all of us as a family.

He is the devoted father of a U.S. citizen child born in Texas, a loving partner, and a trusted member of his community. His prolonged detention has caused immense emotional and physical suffering not only for him, but for his little son and his family, who live each day fearing that the next seizure could be life threatening.

Immigration detention is civil, not punitive. Yet for Jorge, detention has become a grave danger to his health and life. More than 100 days in custody, combined with a worsening medical condition, constitutes a serious humanitarian and constitutional concern. Continued confinement under these circumstances is not only unjust ,it is inhumane.

We urgently call on ICE and the appropriate authorities to recognize the humanitarian necessity of releasing Jorge or granting appropriate relief so he can receive proper medical care and be reunited with his family. No child should fear losing a parent, and no family should be forced to watch a loved one’s health deteriorate behind bars when safe alternatives exist.

There is still hope. By standing together and raising our voices, we can prevent a preventable tragedy.

Please join us by signing this petition and standing up for compassion, dignity, and humanity. Jorge deserves the chance to receive proper medical care, live safely, and remain with the family and community that depend on him.
