Prevent Comcast from Detaching NBCUniversal's Cable Networks

The Issue

As a dedicated viewer and supporter of many cable television networks that shape the world of entertainment, I am deeply distressed by Comcast's decision to spin off several renowned cable networks from NBCUniversal, which is called "Versant" (formerly "SpinCo"). Comcast has chosen to sever key elements of its broadcasting realm, shifting them into a new, separate company. This shift threatens to reshape the landscape of cable television that we are so fond of.

Prominent networks like USA, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel, along with CNBC and MSNBC, that have been the staples of Comcast’s NBCUniversal are part of this significant change. This decision by Comcast comes as consumers increasingly favour streaming platforms over cable TV subscriptions. Other key resources, including the movie ticketing platform Fandango and the Rotten Tomatoes movie rating site, are also to be transferred to the new company.

While the shift in consumer preferences is undeniable, the fact that these networks have served as the heart of the entertainment giant cannot be dismissed. This breakup could have far-reaching effects on the quality and diversity of programming available to viewers. There is a rich history associated with these networks and their creation. To strip NBCUniversal of these is to uproot a key component of their identity.

NBCUniversal Cable units:

  • Entertainment Networks:
    • Syfy (NBCUniversal can't sell the network to SpinCo)
    • USA Network (NBCUniversal can't sell the network to SpinCo)
  • Lifestyle Network Group:
    • Bravo (NBCUniversal can keep the network)
    • E! (NBCUniversal can't sell the network to SpinCo)
    • Oxygen (NBCUniversal can't sell the network to SpinCo)
    • Wilshire Studios, reality studios, formerly E! Studio
  • Kids & Family Group:
    • Universal Kids (NBCUniversal ceased the network's operations on March 6, 2025)

We understand the need for companies to adapt to changing viewer patterns, but pulling these networks away from NBCUniversal raises serious questions about the future of these beloved channels. We respectfully request Comcast to reconsider their decision, keeping these networks as part of NBCUniversal. Let's keep the heart of entertainment intact. Please, sign this petition and voice your support for preserving the original structure of Comcast's NBCUniversal.
