Prevent Codex Allimentarius

The Issue

There are many components to maintaining health and wellness. Americans should be able to decide for themselves what they ingest into their bodies and have full knowledge of ingredients in our foods.

There is a trade agreement called CODEX ALIMENTARIUS that threatens this. Currently, the FDA is passing rulings to comply with CODEX ALIMENTARIUS. Again, this is a trade agreement NOT a consumer protection act. There are requirements in Codex Alimentarius such as forcing vegetables to be irradiated (taking away nutritional value in exchange for removing bacteria, rather than tackling bacteria at its source by enforcing clean farming practices). Codex will also require that some nutritional supplements become illegal while others such as vitamins will require doctor's prescriptions. We must stop this from being implemented.

Real freedom means having the freedom to control what nutrition you ingest and what types of medical treatments you undergo. It should never be the government's responsibility to restrict these things.

Debbie ShapiroPetition StarterI believe in social liberalism and moderate fiscal policies. I'm a civil libertarian, but don't necessarily believe that libertarian economics can work. Unfettered capitalism is extreme. A corporation's goals are often at odds with social goals. Corporations need regulations just as much as individuals do. I believe that our country has moved too far in the direction of corporations over people. I'm married, work full time in IT and am an animal lover. Issues of importance for me include: Universal Single Payer Health Care Health Freedom Ending the War on Drugs Ending the War on Terror (misguided and should be a police issue, not a military issue) Fair Tax (<a href="http://fairtax.org" rel="nofollow">fairtax.org</a>) Green Tax (<a href="http://geo-greenism.org" rel="nofollow">geo-greenism.org</a>) National Initiative (<a href="http://ni4d.us" rel="nofollow">ni4d.us</a>)
