Require the Government to create a National Registry of Convicted Child Murderers.

Require the Government to create a National Registry of Convicted Child Murderers.
The Issue
I recently read an article written by Samantha Lantz about a woman, Phyllis Comfort, who was released after serving her minimum sentence of 15 years in prison for murdering her 3-year-old nephew Terral Hall. In this article the mother, Beverly Holecek, reflects on that decision asking why there isn't a site out there allowing people to know where the baby killers are at.
Suffice to say, I know that pain all to well. On May 9, 1998 my 8 month old son David was brutally murdered by a man named David Flick. Someday in my lifetime that man will too be released. While I am left here living my life without my son, being reminded every day of all of the things that he missed out on, that man will someday be able to walk "free". He will be able to reinvent himself, move to another city or state, and move on as if it never happened. He will be legally permitted to live near a school, visiting playgrounds where children play, and babysit for people who will never know that my son's life was taken by his hand.
I live in constant fear of what that non-remorseful creature will do when he is released upon the world. I fear for my children, I fear for myself, I fear for the life of other children, I fear for other woman, but mostly I fear that once released he will have the opportunity to afflict pain on another unsuspecting family just as he had done to mine.
Putting this into perspective, currently there is no database for the tracking of child killers. Once they are released they are FREE to join the general public. There is no way of knowing what they had done without first running a background check, etc. So any child killer could live next door, and invite your kids in for cookies at any time.
Now had this man played with my child's genitals rather than bashing his skull in, he would have been required to report to a national database of sex offenders. So per the current laws, if my son lived, he and all other children would forever be protected by the national database for sex offenders. However, because he did not survive the multiple skull fractures, severe edema, retinal hemorrhage, and the bleeding out of his brain... this man will now walk completely "free" and be afforded the opportunity to harm or even kill someone else's child.
Therefore, I respectfully urge President Obama to review the current policy regarding the release and tracking of convicted child killers. I further urge the President and Congress to create a bill that is designed to protect our children following the release of a convicted child killer by creating a national registration for all people that have been convicted of killing a child. Every citizen of this great nation should have the right to know if the person next door has murdered a child. Just because my son David was killed instead of molested, that should not excuse the man that killed him from being listed in a registry. The government has an obligation to its people to keep us safe, and more importantly to keep our children safe. Had my David been molested, other kids would be protected by having his offender be registered. However, because he was murdered, his conviction as is stands currently will be protected and unknown to the innocent an unsuspecting public upon his release.
This must change!
