Join Us in Creating A Bipartisan Unity Coalition

The Issue

Sign this petition in support of the Bipartisan Unity Coalition. We are like-minded Americans who are calling on President Joe Biden to unite the nation and tackle the issues we are now facing. The BUC is dedicated to the respectful resolution of divergent perspectives regardless of political affiliation. Congressional committees too often decide on issues along party lines, leaving the minority party feeling unheard and defeated. We are asking President Biden to create a series of task forces compromised of an even number of representatives from each party to address the great issues of our nation. Please read our letter to President Biden below:

President Biden,

Your clearly stated goal is to be a President for all Americans and bring this divided country together.  We, as Americans, support you in that great effort.

However, there is an obstacle you’ll first need to overcome in order to achieve that goal: Congressional committees too often decide issues along party lines, leaving the minority party feeling unheard and defeated. The general public is less likely to embrace those findings, citing partisan politics.

We have a suggestion to engage and energize ALL Americans and to help end the partisan brinksmanship that is stifling our country.

Mr. President, we urge you to create a series of task forces to address the great issues of our times.  Each task force must have an even number of representatives from each party. With an even number of members, there must be compromise; there must be a meeting of the minds; there must be consensus.  Any consensus reached will - by design and definition - be undeniably non-partisan.

The key issue then becomes, how can intransigence and maintenance of hard line partisanship be overcome? All task force meetings should be live-streamed, allowing anyone interested to tune in and watch the presentations, expert opinions and negotiations.

Live-streaming would allow for an “unfiltered” view, untainted by the perceived factionalized news media.  Only this type of transparency can create the accountability necessary to bring Americans together.

Ideally, task force membership should be a mix of subject matter experts, captains of industry, and former government officials.  In fact, past U.S. Presidents would be ideal members, for their gravitas and leadership. They must all be people of stature, serious people and equally representing both Democrats and Republicans.

Where possible, we would hope that the President will attend these task force meetings and regularly participate in their discussions, but as a non-voting member. Interest and viewership will go up on days the President attends, and you can demonstrate your enthusiasm for the work of that group, putting a spotlight on the urgency of their work.

Once a task force has met its objective and arrived at a substantive proposal that can be considered by Congress, a new task force can be created to tackle the next topic in line.

Our hope is to have our Nation’s most qualified and talented minds tackle the great topics of our country, issues that have been around for far too long and need to be resolved.  The added benefit would be that everyone will have a chance to see how their elected officials react to what these bipartisan, fully transparent task forces put forward.

We can be better.  But the need for transparency and bipartisanship has never been greater. This proposal can produce actionable ideas and restore confidence in government without the filtered lens of the media.

Now, more than ever, America must demonstrate, to ourselves and the world, that we have the ability to work “across the aisle”, allowing everyone to see that we are more than just labels. Democrats/Republicans, liberal/conservative, moderate/progressive, all these self-imposed silos do not define us as Americans.

In the end, by working together toward a common goal to solve our most pressing issues with full transparency and complete bipartisanship, we are so much more.
