The issue

As a Disability Support Provider and the sibling of a person with a complex disability, I have witnessed first hand the irreplaceable role Support Coordinators play in aiding vulnerable individuals to navigate the NDIS. These roles provide essential support that ensures participants access the necessary resources and achieve their goals effectively.

The recent proposal by the NDIS to replace these roles with a new framework called "NDIS Navigators" poses a significant risk to the stability and continuity of support for many individuals and families reliant on NDIS services. The personal and trusted relationships built over time with current coordinators have been pivotal in understanding and addressing the unique needs of each participant.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the reliance on current coordination roles ensures approximately 460,000 Australians receive personalised and tailored support through NDIS. The nature of their work allows for flexible, constantly adapting, and deeply personal engagement which a new framework might not be able to replicate efficiently.

Replacing these vital positions would disrupt the established support networks, creating uncertainty and confusion among users who rely on consistent and familiar guidance. The transition could lead to impersonal services, where unique needs might be overlooked for a one size fits all solution.

To safeguard the interests of highly vulnerable individuals and their families, it is imperative to preserve roles like Support Coordinators within the NDIS framework. Keeping these positions intact not only supports the existing rapport but also enhances the effectiveness of the NDIS approach, tailoring it to meet real-life complex needs efficiently.

Please join me in urging the NDIS to reconsider its proposed framework change. Let’s stand together to ensure that the voices of those who depend so heavily on these essential services are heard and respected. Sign this petition to preserve the indispensable roles that foster personal connection, trust, and effective support within the NDIS framework.
