ATV Enthusiasts Lament: The Confederation Trail is under utilized with large sections of the trail in rural PEI never used or has very little use. We should be able to ride our ATVs on these sections of the trail.

ANSWER: Just because you don’t see us, doesn’t mean we are not there!

Perhaps ATV Enthusiasts are not familiar with the quiet enjoyment of a walk or bike ride through nature along the trail. When we travel along the trail;

There is no loud machinery to listen for.
There is no wide tire tread marks embedded in the gravel.
There are no holes left for people to trip over.
There are no ruts in the trail that make it difficult for people to walk or ride.
There are no Gates and posts pulled out.
There are no deep dugouts in the grass.
There is no garbage or beer cans left along the way.

FACT:

A 2015 Stats Canada Report stated that 71% of all PEI Households used walking as an outdoor activity in their area. That equates to approximately 120,000 islanders.

Bicycles were used by 22% of all Households on PEI for an outdoor activity. That equates to approximately 37,000 bicycles.

This year, the PEI Minister of Tourism stated in the Legislature that 16% of tourists coming to PEI access the Confederation Trail.  With 1.6 million tourists annually, that equates to over 250,000 tourists.

The Confederation Trail has been identified as the most popular place for people to walk, hike or bike on Prince Edward Island. It has also been recognized as one of the top 100 trails in the world.

Just because you don’t see us doesn’t mean we are not there!

By signing this petition, your are sending a message to the Dennis King Government that the Confederation Trail should be mainly for walking, hiking and biking from April 1st until November 30.
