ATV MYTH #3. There are a few “BAD APPLES” in the ATV sport that are making the sport look bad.

ANSWER: Come on, there are more than a few “BAD APPLES” in the ATV sport and most people in the ATV sport know who they are.  While the majority of ATV users see the value in belonging to an organization with a code of conduct, there are Enthusiasts who do not follow any code of conduct. These are not little old ladies, out for a Sunday drive after church, as they would have you believe. The one thing everyone believes is that these enthusiasts are hurting everyone including the ATV associations they belong to.

These enthusiasts have little respect for the law; have little respect for other peoples property; have little respect for other people who cycle or hike on the trails and could care less about the damage they cause. For some reason, when some level headed persons sits on an ATV, all common sense flys out of their head. They believe that because their machine is designed to go anywhere, that entitles them to do just that. Go Anywhere!

Enforcement of the laws governing Off Road Vehicle is difficult. As well, the penalties are weak. ATV enthusiasts will pay the fine and continue to ride as they please until caught again, if ever! It’s time to upgrade the Off Road Vehicle laws, increasing fines for unauthorized use and incorporate a minimum fine of $5,000.00 for willful damage caused to the Confederation Trail, other public lands and private property. It should also include a drivers licence suspension as well as vehicle seizure. Off road vehicles should be treated as other motor vehicles. If ATV Enthusiasts refuse to ride responsibly, then they loose their privilege to ride.

By signing this petition, you are telling the government of Dennis King that it’s time to toughen the Off Road Vehicle laws and crack down on the damage or destruction caused by ATV Enthusiasts.
