The Issue

We, the undersigned Dublin residents, support K-8 Feeder Continuity through adoption of Draft I with the addition of PB8 and PB137 to Coffman which further aligns this draft with the 8 redistricting criteria.

We stand with the Bailey community in the desire for community and feeder continuity and believe Draft I with minor modification accomplishes this goal for all.

The issue

There has been a long-standing and disproportionate minority of Wyandot ES families, specifically those residing in PB8 and PB137, who attend Karrer MS and then split to Jerome instead of Coffman. The redistricting offers an opportunity to correct this, specifically Draft I with minor modifications in line with the 8 redistricting criteria.

It is only 63 students, which should conceivably be easy to switch – and actually beneficial given the projected 10-year utilization is low for Coffman and over for Jerome. We should be sending more students to Coffman.

The proposal

We call on Dr. Marschhausen, the Dublin School Board, and Cropper to rectify this as follows in line with the 8 redistricting criteria:

Adopt Draft I adding PB8 and PB137 to Coffman

  • Balance facility utilization: 10-year projected utilization is 72% for Coffman and 104% for Jerome; this would balance 10-year projected utilization
  • Establish clear feeder patterns and continuity: Keeps more Wyandot/Karrer kids together
  • Use major roads and natural boundaries: Tullymore and Brand Rd. as boundaries
  • Account for future growth: further alleviates Jerome making space for more growth which is inevitable in NW quadrant
  • Establish contiguous zones: keeps Wyandot contiguous zone together
  • Close proximity: while Jerome is technically closer, and in some cases across the street from these neighborhoods, there is no good crosswalk, lights, or stop signs across Brand Rd for walkers/bikers and thus most kids from these neighborhoods require transportation anyway as expressed by this parent in PB137: While Jerome might be close I’m not comfortable with my kids walking during high school rush hour or having to make a left turn out of our neighborhood onto Brand rd with no traffic lights or even stop signs.
