The Issue

We are running out of time. Scientists now say there’s a 50% chance we’ll cross the critical 1.5°C global warming threshold by 2028. In fact, 2024 was already the hottest year ever recorded—1.55°C above pre-industrial levels.

The effects are here: rising seas, record heat waves, stronger storms, and devastating droughts. It’s clear—we haven’t cut emissions fast enough. Now we must prepare.

We call on the U.S. government to take bold action in three critical areas:

  1. Protect Communities on the Frontlines: The impacts of climate change hit hardest in coastal towns, rural areas, and communities of color. We need immediate investment in infrastructure that can withstand flooding, fire, and extreme heat — so families aren’t left behind when disaster strikes.

  2. Strengthen Emergency Response Systems: As the risks escalate, so must our ability to respond. We need better early-warning systems, heat shelters, disaster relief funding, and support for first responders—before emergencies become unmanageable.

  3. Double Down on Emissions Cuts Now: Preparing for climate change means still fighting to stop it. The U.S. must phase out fossil fuel subsidies, rapidly expand renewable energy, and set stronger limits on pollution—while creating clean-energy jobs and a more sustainable economy.

The window is closing. Preparing for a hotter world is not optional — it’s a responsibility. We must take action now.
