Blue Derby Wild
Jun 8, 2022

We're redeploying our remote fauna camera traps through the areas of Krushka's forests that we managed to save from logging through our Supreme Court case to find out how many animals are finding refuge in these last stands. We're seeing a significant increase in the density of animals using these remaining areas after the surrounding forests were logged. What we're observing is a wave of displaced wildlife trying to find shelter and food in smaller areas with higher competition. This does not bode well for most of these animals who've lost their burrow sites, and habitat hollows.
This burly wombat is not an animal we've seen in this location before over 18 months of camera trap monitoring. We can only surmise its old habitat and regular routes have been so impacted it's had to move into this higher area of remaining forest cover.
Our citizen science work in Krushka's is ramping up for winter, and you can help identify and verify what we're recording by going to the Australia Museum DigiVol Wildlife Spotter platform, logging in and reviewing the Blue Derby Wild expedition recordings.
We'll be uploading new expeditions weekly a we reset our fleet of remote cameras.
Our forests are worth more standing for biodiversity and wildlife.
