The forests of north east Tasmania are like nowhere else on Earth. From the glacial refugia forests of the Blue Tier holding the tallest flowering plants on earth, to the Gondwanic remnant forests around the Blue Derby mountain bike trails, these forests are under increasing threat from logging.

Premier Rockliff you have the opportunity to protect our native forests, the unique biodiversity within them and the growing outdoor and eco-tourism businesses growing in our region based on our wild places.

Logging was halted in the Krushkas forests of the Blue Derby mountain bike trails, in April 2022 with a court ordered injunction brought about by Blue Derby Wild as part of a Supreme Court Case claiming unlawful logging. This case is now progressing to the Full Supreme court on appeal, to challenge the systemic problems with how Tasmania's native forests are managed. Specifically that government business enterprise, Sustainable Timber Tasmania is able to self regulate their native forest logging.

The success of the nature based tourism in Tasmania has shown how creating outdoor and eco-tourism businesses that value our forests and wild places can revive a region. Bringing new people to experience the wild places of Tasmania. This is being undermined as the Tasmanian Government allows the logging of our unique forests that host our most profitable new industry - nature experience based tourism. You have the opportunity to change this.

The forests of Tasmania are worth more standing for their biodiversity, wildlife, carbon stores and as the location of world class nature based tourism attractions.

Premier you have the opportunity to protect our native forests, and end the bad old ways of native forest logging in Tasmania. End native forest logging to protect our natural assets, and booming nature experience based economy.
