It's winter solstice and this year the @dark_mofo purging was of another of our endangered species, the Tasmanian masked owl.
Every year government logging agency Sustainable Timber Tasmania (STT) logs and burns thousands of hectares of prime owl habitat that takes hundreds of years to form. Masked Owls need big old hollow trees to nest in, hollows that take a minimum of 120 years to form.
When the Tasmanian government permits the logging and burning of our native forests, this image so accurately represents what we are doing to the future of our unique owl, and so many other species.
While we've won a reprieve on some areas of owl habitat in Krushka's it is not safe. STT are still planning to start logging the Atlas forests next year which neighbours Krushka's forests. These Gondwana forests are all habitat for masked owls, and all scheduled for logging and burning.
Send a message to the Premier of Tasmania Jeremy Rockcliff to end native forest logging and burning.
Our forests and wildlife are worth more standing, and worth fighting for.
