We, the undersigned, call upon the university administration to postpone the implementation of SSAF fees for students at the Fremantle campus until the necessary facilities are completed.

The recent announcement of SSAF fees came as a surprise to many of us, with little prior consultation or information provided. As students, we understand the importance of contributing to the university community, but we believe it is unfair to burden us with additional fees while essential facilities are still under construction.

The current state of our campus is far from ideal, with ongoing construction projects disrupting our ability to study effectively. The library, a crucial resource for students, is unavailable due to renovations. Given these circumstances, it is unreasonable to expect students to pay for services and amenities that are not yet accessible.

Many of our peers face financial hardships, balancing multiple jobs or family responsibilities. For them, every additional expense creates further strain. Implementing SSAF fees at this time only exacerbates existing inequalities.

We propose that SSAF fees for Fremantle students be delayed until semester 1, 2025, by which time the promised facilities should be completed and accessible to all.
