We the undersigned wish to see the Cayman Islands Postal Service issue a series of stamps for Miss Olive Miller OBE. The reasons are many. Miss Olive was the founder of the Girls Brigade (1946), the NCVO (1975) the Pink Ladies Volunteer Corps (1980) and first manager of The Pines where she worked from 1983 to 1991.
She co-founded and taught at Cayman High School, was the first paid news reporter on our islands (1964), the government’s first information officer (1970 – 1981), served as a Justice of the Peace (1978 – 1981) and published her book Cayman Rhyme Time, featuring traditional songs from the islands.
Her awards are as follows:
· Queen's Certificate and Badge of Honour (1967)
· Member of the Order of the British Empire (1977)
· Vice-Patron – Brigade International (1983)
· Listed as one of five "Distinguished Women of History" in the Cayman Islands (2003)
· Spirit of Excellence Award (2009)
· Golden Apple Lifetime Achievement Award (2010)
· Officer of the Order of the British Empire (2018)
Upon her passing on 20 May 2020, the Cayman Islands National Flag was flown at half-mast on all government buildings. She was described by The Cayman Compass as "Cayman's own Mother Teresa".
