Define and Regularize avian and fauna breeding and keeping in India

The Issue

Dear Leaders,

India is land of natural heritage. There are evidence from ancient ages on how human and nature are helping each other on their existence. Mankind has been interacting with animals and birds for centuries. Some of them got domesticated over period of time and kept as pet. Some of the benefits of keeping pets in the fast urban life -

  • Pets can enhance your mood
  • Better social skills and sense of responsibility in kids
  • An antidote for loneliness
  • A source of exercise
  • Help to control blood pressure
  • Reduce stress
  • Long life
  • Safety of house in your absence

Apart from pet keeping, Mankind has also contributed a lot in conservation of the species by conservative breeding e.g. being spix macaw, bali mynah, moustache parrot, malabar parrot and similar highly en-dangerous species. Urbanization drive is going in almost every country leaving less space of natural heritage. Breeders and keepers are contributing a lot to help conserve the natural flora and fauna.

In India, we have rules drafted for safeguarding native birds and animals under Indian Wildlife Act 1972 but still we lack in defining a clear standard and guidelines -

  • Exotic species of bird and animals - Non native
  • Stock management
  • Scientific information on the species
  • Breeding and keeping of species
  • Minimum cage space requirement
  • Diet management
  • Veterinary Support
  • Mutation of native species which we imported
  • Trading of species not covered under Indian Wildlife Act 1972

Avian and Fauna Conservation Society is group of like minded people who are trying to help breeder and keeper to support above points but actively seeking help from government bodies and authorities to make it official. This will set the official ground and give a clear picture of rules, regulation and guidelines for avian and fauna management for indian breeders and traders.
