Plato's Closet: discriminat over size

Plato's Closet: discriminat over size

The Issue

I am truly outraged at my treatment in the consignment shop, Plato's Closet. I brought in several very appealing articles of clothing only to be told that "although they liked my clothes, they do not accept any sizes above XL." I was and still am feeling upset, outraged, insulted, by this traumatizing and embarrassing encounter. I was made to feel ashamed of my weight and unworthy of their assistance in the sale of my clothes. I do not feel that it was right to turn me away based solely on the size of my clothes, especially since there were no signs or any other indications that articles of clothing in my size would not be accepted. I feel completely discriminated against and no one has made me feel as though I have something to embarrassed regarding my size in this manner ever before

THEIR RESPONSE:

Dear Robert: I am sorry that you had a poor experience and felt upset and insulted at our store. We strive to make our customer experience a pleasant one. I would like to apologize for any customer service problem. Based on the conversation you recounted above, it sounds like our staff were trying to inform you about our policy -- but if that is not true, please let me know. We are a franchise operation, and the sizes we can accept are set nationally and are consistent across all Plato's Closet stores. The sizes we accept are described on our buy policy sheets and on our websites. Perhaps we need to do a better job of highlighting the specifics about what sizes we can buy. Best regards,

OUR RESPONSE:

This company is portraying an acceptance to those who are skinny and a rejection to those who are obese. Discrimination-treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit. This company deserves to be ostracized by legitimate companies who cater to people of all sizes and the people of America who find this kind of vile discrimination unacceptable. How dare a company say that someone's weight and size determine whether or not the individual is worthy of their business. You have degraded every obese person in America and I am as furious as every other caring American citizen will surely be. I certainly hope you will rectify your ridiculous policy that discriminates against the obese because you have labeled yourself a public enemy to the obese, and anyone who loves and respects a person who is. SICKENING.

PLEASE JOIN THE FIGHT BECAUSE: This company is a prime example of the epidemic of bullying in America. This company has decided to target and victimize the obese, that is SHAMEFUL.

Robert SparksPetition StarterTake me as I am. I’m very big ♥ed - I wear it on my sleeve. I’m strange, quirky and the best damn friend you ever could have… Instantly part of my family. I make people's days brighter. I love to sing out loud and am kind of shy at times. I always lend a helping hand; love horror movies; all kinds of music. Glad I was raised around my elders so I know how to respect people more and use good manners. I lost my dad at an early age - wish I knew him better. I have the best counselor in the world and that is God. I hate drugs - don't want to waste one brain cell at all…. so this is me - deal with it!!!!
